A clear shift is underway in gift-box design: the old "glossy + full gold foil" opulence is giving way to its opposite — an all-matte box, lit up only where it counts. Why? Consumer taste moved on: full-coverage "luxury" now reads as *trying* to look expensive; restrained luxury reads as the real thing.
Three moves to get there:
First, a matte-laminated base. The whole box gets matte film — fine to the touch, fingerprint-proof, photogenic. The default foundation of today's high-end boxes.
Second, spot UV as the accent. Logo or key artwork in spot UV, visible only when the light catches it — clean matte the rest of the time. This "effortless refinement" is the most sought-after texture right now.
Third, less foil, not more. Where brands once foiled the logo, the border and the pattern, the trend is a single touch — one small seal, one fine line. Less foil makes the remaining foil work harder.
This "matte + selective highlight" combination is all routine work for us: matte lamination, spot UV, foil stamping — one Heidelberg plus our finishing lines, no outsourcing. If next year's box needs a new direction, this approach is worth a sample.
